36 Hours in Nashville with Local Milk

October 12, 2016 Carrie Crow

I went to Nashville last weekend to learn a thing or two about food and prop styling from the inimitable Beth Kirby of Local Milk.  I agree it’s a decadent notion to fly somewhere for a seven hour workshop but..

New Piece up at ARTEIDOLIA: 'Women Were Photography Pioneers Too'

April 6, 2016 Carrie Crow

"Where are all the great grandmothers of photography and why aren’t they being exhibited alongside their male counterparts?"

Part One of my three-part series on women in photography is up now on Arteidolia. I'll be looking at too-often forgotten women in photography whose work absolutely blows my mind.

Streit House Space Exhibition: 'This is It'

I have been following the online photography gallery Streit House Space with great interest for awhile and was delighted to be selected for their recent exhibit, 'This is It.'  The gallery is run by Jordanna Kalman, a photographer and curator under the simple premise: "photographers submit their work via email which is then printed, displayed on a wall, documented and finally posted online."

Why is this interesting to me?  Well, firstly, I think Jordanna's personal work is brilliant and I love her gallery's aesthetic and philosophy.  As a photographer who obsesses over every detail, from inception to print production, it's a refreshing experience to let that image go entirely.  Streit House exhibitions are essentially a photograph of a selection of photographs, printed on whatever paper and printer the curator deemed fit and I just love how each of those individual images cohere in a new, dreamlike narrative borne out of Jordanna's imagination.  It's kind of like being in someone else's dream and that is a wonderful feeling.
